ARC Review: Insider (Exodus End #1) by Olivia Cunning

Hello everyone!!

Today I’m going to review a book I got an ARC from Netgalley. It’s Olivia Cunning’s new book. It’s a new series about Exodus End. If you’ve read her Sinners on Tour series (they are seriously HAWT), Trey’s brother, Darren,  is in Exodus End!!

Toni wants to be an insider.
Logan just wants inside her.

She’s finally ready to rock…
Toni Nichols set aside her dreams to raise her little sister, but now she’s reaching for the stars as the creator of a revolutionary interactive biography about Exodus End. She’s on tour with the rock band to immerse herself in their world, but how will she ever gain the trust of four veteran superstars who’ve been burned by the media before? Nobody said this was going to be easy. Then again, good things can come in hard packages.

He’s always ready to roll…
Adrenaline junkie Logan Schmidt lives for the rush of playing his bass guitar before thousands of screaming fans. When he’s not performing onstage or in the bedroom, he’s looking for his next thrill in extreme sports. So why does a sweet, innocent journalist get his heart pumping and capture his full attention? Is Toni the real deal or just digging up dirt on his band? Logan’s eager to rock Toni’s world and roll her in the sack, but when she starts to get too close to his heart, she takes her insider look to a place he may never be willing to go.

MY REVIEW:

I liked the story in Insider, but  unfortunately I didn’t really connect that much with the main characters, not as much as I did with the other characters. Now I can’t wait for Dare’s book! For the rest of the band’s actually, but I’m REALLY looking forward to Darren’s book and I’m really curious about Max’s story.

As I said, I did enjoy the book, specially because it’s the first in the series and it introduces us to the characters we know we’ll love in the next books. The dynamics in the Exodus End band is very different than the Sinner’s. And I feel I already have my favorites and I’m really curious about the other members as well.

I wish Insider had a better ending/epilogue though. The ending felt very rushed to me and I was hoping for more resolution. Even though it doesn’t have them, I feel like there were lose ends. Also, to me, the love story/sex/relationship started too early. I mean, I don’t mind it, in Backstage Pass (the first book in the Sinners on Tour series) the love story, I mean, sex started when they met. But in Insider, I don’t think it worked as well as in Backstage Pass.

The story focused A LOT in Reagan, Trey and Ethan’s relationship (which I don’t really get, not because they are a polyamorous trio, but mostly because, since Trey’s book in the Sinners on Tour series, I get Trey and Reagan’s connection, but I don’t really get their connection to Ethan beyond the bedroom. To me it feels like he is an add-on for the fun times, unfortunately. I didn’t really connect with him either…), sometimes even more than in the main characters.

I get that Toni was innocent (almost too much, kind of a cliché at times), and I get that Reagan is part of Exodus End, but to me the story focused too much on others. Maybe because it’s the first in the Exodus End series. One thing thought, as I already said, Insider made me really curious about the other members of the band, specially Max and Dare (Daaaaare *-*).

But I’m curious about the next book too, about Reagan, Trey and Ethan (specially when we get a hint of Ethan’s jealousy towards Brian, it’ll be good to see a deeper connection between all three of them). I LOVE Trey and even thought I don’t get Ethan in their trio, I hope to get a better grasp on their relationship. I also want to know what will be Reagan fate in the band…I’m

From my review you can see that unfortunately, the other members of the band interested me more than the actual main charaters, but it was good to see how the Exodus End series was introducted in this book. I LOVED all the Sinners interactions as well! I loved everytime the Sinners and their women appeared. It’s great to see the characters of the other series interacting with the ones in this new series.

I can’t wait for Olivia’s next HOT book (to me none has been as hot as Backstage Pass so far…although Sed and Jessica’s book was the closer and althouth all of them are hot, but Master Sinclair is just EVERYTHING)!!!
