Book Review: Love Me in the Dark by Mia Asher

Happy Friday, everyone!!!

Another review???? I KNOW, RIGHT?!

I’m cheating a bit and using reviews I had already wrote on Goodreads! As I’ve mentioned before I rate every single book I read on Goodreads and I try to say at least a little bit about them (unless I’m in a hurry). I’m actually Brazil’s number 5 reviewer on GR, how cool is that???!

Anyways, here is my review of Love Me in the Dark, the last book Mia Asher released. I absolutely LOVE Mia’s books and this one was different than all of the books she’s written before!

Two strangers in Paris …
One passionate, earth-shattering kiss.

He was the artist upstairs
with the tantalizing smile and laughing eyes.

He was the devil inviting me to sin,
seducing me to dance in the bright moonlight.

He was desire and need.

When he touched me, my body sang.
My soul came alive.

But I belonged to another man,
and he didn’t want to let me go.

MY RATING: 4.5 “Petit Chouette” Stars

You know the kind of author you can always trust to deliver a good book? Well, Mia Asher is one of those for me. I’ve been reading her books since she started (in fact Arsen was my first review on my blog), and I can always counton her to deliver a well-written, well-thought and addictive story.

I didn’t read the synopsis, as always, but with authors I trust implicitly that is not a problem at all, just the opposite. I went in all blind and at 12% I was more than hooked!

When a book hooks you before 10% it’s a sign things will (more oftenly than not) go well! And that was the case with Love Me in the Dark.

This book is different than Mia’s other books and for what she’s know for. It’s not angst packed and it’s very romantic. Although, in my opinion, a slow burn kind of love is its own form of angst, which again, I LOVE!

This book could have gone in a whole other direction, it could have been super angty and darker, but Mia chose the exact ammount of drama to make it different than her other books. It’s not overly dramatic, because Valentina and Sébastien’s story didn’t need it.

What I most like in this book is that even though it’s a very romantic kind of book, it’s still “different”, it’s fresh and it brings something new to the genre. With so many authors a book like this could be mushy and fluffy and a cliché fest, but in Mia’s more than capable hands, it turned out to be the exact kind of romantic, “sweet” (the good kind) and “lighter” book I enjoy reading.

It actually has substance and a story behind the characters. A story would have loved to see more of, because I enjoyed it immensely, I finished it in about 2 hours and I didn’t see the time passing! I’m not the kind of reader who needs (and asks for) an epilogue in every book she reads, but in this one I wouldn’t have said no, because I didn’t want to see it ending (although I loved how it ended)! 🙂

I love that it focuses on the characters present although it has some flashbacks that will give some insights to who and how so e characters are today. Mia could have detailed a lot about most of the characters and made it a lot more angst (she writes angst so expertly), but I love how this particular story turned out to be. How it focused on their now instead of dwelling on their past!

Love Me in the Dark is a story that will bring elements of romance that make the best kind of love stories, like chance encounters and late night talks. But it’s still fresh and it’s no cliché. With characters we can connect with and their easy-to-relate stories, you can’t help but be swept over your feet by this love story.

Mainly set in the most romantic of cities, Love Me in the Dark will make you swoon and smile and it’ll definitely grip your attention and make you fall in love with Valentina and Sébastien (specially him)! It’ll show you that love can be found in the most unexpected times and places, even if we’re leaving in the dark, love will shed some light and make everything clearer!

It’s been harder than ever finding good and “different” reads in the community (indie or not indie) and I love when a book reminds me why I keep looking for them, like Love Me in the Dark did! I’ve been reading so many fantasy books lately that finding a great contemporary like this one really made my day! I’m not getting every new release out there like I used to, so for me this makes this book even more special!

I’m really looking forward to more of Mia’s books. She’s an author I can gladly wait for books!

Book Review: When Life Happened by Jewel E.Ann

Hello, everyone!!

I know it has been a looooong while, but here I am with a new review!

When Life Happened by Jewel E.Ann was recently released and I definitely recommend it! I read the ARC a few weeks ago and I’m still thinking about it!!!

Parker Cruse despises cheaters. It might have something to do with her boyfriend sleeping with her twin sister.
After a wedding day prank involving a strong laxative, that ends the already severed relationship between the twins, Parker decides to grow up and act twenty-six.

Step One: Move out of her parents’ house.

Step Two: Find a job.

Opportunity strikes when she meets her new neighbor, Gus Westman. He’s an electrician with Iowa farm-boy values and a gift for saying her name like it’s a dirty word.
He also has a wife.
Sabrina Westman, head of a successful engineering firm, hires Parker as her personal assistant. Driven to be the best assistant ever, Parker vows to stay focused, walk the dog, go to the dry cleaners, and not kiss Gus—again.

Step Three: Don’t judge.

Step Four: Remember— when life happens, it does it in a heartbeat.

MY RATING: 5 “This is my favorite day” Stars

***ARC received in exchange of an honest review***

As usual I didn’t read the synopsis before starting this book. Which has an added satisfaction, whenever it’s a book by an author whose writing I trust. And I’m SO GLAD I didn’t. Going in blind with When Life Happened was perfect, it only added to the perfection and impact of the story.

This book was BEYOND incredible! Jewel is such a talented writer! Some people are born to write and with such a delicate, flawless book, Jewel E. Ann proves she’s definitely one of them.
When I finished I couldn’t believe the book was over and I had to go back to my life! I’m so in love with this story I’m not even kidding. I wish it was true, just so I could stalk the characters and try being their best friend! It left me with a huge book hangover.

When Life Happened is an incredbly moving story about love, choices and, well, life… It was so good to see Parker, the heroine, grow so much in the story. What happened to her and the choices she made weren’t only humbling for her, but also for us, the readers. I already believed it, but Jewel makes us see that life and the choices we make aren’t black and white. And love…well, love is not always a choice. What we decided to do with it are very much our own choices, but those don’t have to be so absolute.

Before the story reached its half I was pretty sure I had it all figured out. Boy, how I was wrong!! The story takes the mother of turns and you might want to yell “WTF did Jewel do???!”. I actually said WTH more than once. I was not expecting that plot twist. At all. And after it, I wasn’t expecting (and I also didn’t want to) to like what happens next. I was prepared to hate characters, old and new. But then, they won my heart.

At first I thought the hero couldn’t possibly win me after all THAT, but he did. And he did so good! I’m still in love with him, I don’t care he is a fictional character. I’m prepared to battle Parker for him!!

With Jewel’s typical sense of humor, she weaved such a lovely, moving and powerful story! She makes us laugh at the right times. Surprises us when we least expect. Breaks our hearts. But then she consistently glues every little piece together with a story so unforgettable you don’t wish you could unread it to read it for the first time again, you simply wish to read it over and over just so you never stop feeling all the feels this book brings you!

Seriously, if I could recommend you one book this years, let this be it. You definitely need this book to happen in your life!!!

ARC Review: The Night Mark by Tiffany Reisz

Hey everyone, Happy Friday!!

I finished the Night Mark, the upcoming new release by my favorite author, Tiffany Reisz and I just had to review it. It’s a smallish review, but the book is AMAZING!

She has nothing to live for in the present, but finds there’s something worth dying for in the past…

From Tiffany Reisz, the international bestselling storyteller behind The Bourbon Thief and The Original Sinners series, comes an enthralling new novel about a woman swept away by the tides who awakens to find herself in 1921, reunited with the husband she’s been mourning for four years. Fans of Kate Morton and Diana Gabaldon will fall in love with the mystery, romance and beauty of an isolated South Carolina lighthouse, where a power greater than love works its magic.

MY RATING: 5 Beastly Stars

4 stars4 stars4 stars4 stars5 stars

***ARC received in exchange of an honest review***

The Night Mark is completely different than anything else Tiffany Reisz ever published. It has NOTHING to do with the Original Sinners series, my favorite books EVER, as you know. It’s not as controversial as The Bourbon Thief, and it’s not an erotic romance. But I’d know it’s a Tiffany Reisz book even if I didn’t know who wrote it. Why is that? Tiffany has the ability to make me smile and feel warm inside by the words she writes. Other (very few) authors have that ability too, but The Night Mark is the kind of story only Tiffany can write.

The actual story telling in this book is PHENOMENAL. I will be honest (as usual), the beginning of the story was kind of slow, but once I got the pace of it, I couldn’t put it down. The story is BEAUTIFUL, and it makes us believe in time-travel. We know rationally it’s not possible, but Tiffany makes us believe it IS possible. This book makes us feel like we’re inside the story, like we, the readers, traveled inside of the book, so why can’t time-travel be possible?

As you know, I don’t usually read blurbs before reading the books, but I don’t feel like I cheated with Tiffany! The blurb has nothing on the book (and it gives nothing away). It was a surprise after surprise every time I turned a page.

The plot line is very fresh. Even tough time-traveling can seem quite straight forward (someone traveling to another time is the basic plot line in this kind of book), it’s the opposite. I love the angle Tiffany chose with The Night Mark and on what she focused.

I loved Faye and I could definitely relate to her and put myself in her place. She hasn’t had the easiest life for the past few years and her struggle could be anyone else’s struggle. I really like how relatable she is, the reason she’s suffering too. Even though we may not have been through the same things she has, everyone is going through something.

The story is very romantic, not only for the romance aspect of it, but also because of how it was writing. Tiffany’s very words are poetic and the world she created with this book cement that. I’ve always felt like I should have been born and lived in another time (it varies from Medieval Times through the 1960s), so this was the perfect book for me. 1921 never sound so good!

But don’t worry, if you’re not into History like I am, it won’t be an issue, The Night Mark doesn’t focus on the History aspect, it focuses on the people, the characters. I actually wish there was more on them, because I’ve finished this books a few hours ago and I already miss the characters.

One of the things I most liked about it is the fact it’s different. Different from other time-traveling books. Different from other contemporary romance books. Different from Tiffany’s other books. It’s so refreshing to read something so different from a favorite author, but something you can love too. It shows why that author is between your favorites. Because it’s not easy to write erotic romance, taboo romance and contemporary romance and excel in all of them. So I bow to Tiffany and her writing. She did it again!

When I finished The Night Mark I had the biggest smile on my face and tears on my eyes! It was the perfect book, with the perfect story and the perfect writing.

I’m really happy I read it, because every new book of Tiffany I read reminds me why she’s my ALL TIME FAVORITE author. They are different and daring and romantic (sometimes in their own way). They make me believe in them and in love. They make me want to be a character inside their pages. I can not imagine a world where Tiffany Reisz’s books don’t exist, because they’ve changed my life. And every new book of hers I read, I’m left with a mark (no pun intended). They mark my heart and I know I’ll have that mark forever, no matter how many other books I read!

Valentine’s Day Special: Interview with Stefan and Luna from the Lord and Master series

I discovered Lord and Master (the first book in this series) back in 2015 and I definitely became a fan of Kait Jagger writing style! The third and final book in the series, The Marchioness, will be released in March. I’ve read it already and I LOVED it!

I can say without a doubt that the Lord and Master series is one of the best written series I’ve read. I really like how the story is told, the characters and Kait’s incredible talent!!

And for my last post, to crown these awesome Special Posts this year, Stefan and Luna, the protagonists of the Lord and Master trilogy, played an awesome game of “Love Match” and they each had to answer questions about the other!!!

Ohh, if you want to see it, HERE is my review of the first book, Lord and Master!

Thank you so much for doing this, Kait!!!

Hello and welcome to Love Match, where we test couples to see just how well they know each other and whether their relationship has what it takes to go the distance! Today we’ve come to beautiful, historic Arborage House in Berkshire to quiz 26-year-old personal assistant Luna Gregory and her boyfriend, 28-year-old Swedish entrepreneur Stefan Lundgren. Luna works as PA to the Marchioness of Lionsbridge, and in her spare time she likes motorcycling and girls’ nights out with her best friends. Stefan is a former TV personality (and recovering ladies man!) who also happens to be third in line to inherit the Arborage Estate.

Now, remember, neither Stefan nor Luna know what the other has said about them. So let’s see how often they get it right!

1. Okay, Stefan, we’ll start with an easy question. What’s Luna’s favourite song?

STEFAN: It would have to be one by the Arctic Monkeys. They’re her favourite band—she and her friends Nancy, Kayla and Jem once spent an entire summer going to every single concert they played. But which song? I’m going to go with Do I Wanna Know.

2. What were Luna’s first words to you?

STEFAN: Otch, hmm, I’m trying to think…It was September, and I was standing in the farm shop here at Arborage. Luna had just come running in on another of the Marchioness’s crazy, last minute missions. I remember she was wearing a white silk blouse, black pencil skirt and a pair of black stilettos. And with those eyes of hers, ice blue, cold as Hallviken in winter, she looked like a very stern governess. Stern, but also slightly mischievous, maybe just a little bit naughty…mmm…sorry, what was your question??

3. What’s her favourite meal?

STEFAN:Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.

4. What’s Luna’s favourite part of your body?

STEFAN:Luna will lie about this one, I know it. Proper little Englishwoman that she is, she will say something like my nose or my smile, but Luna and I both know it’s my arse.

5. We understand Luna loves her BMW Enduro motorbike so much, she’s even given it a secret name. Do you know what that name is?

STEFAN: I do. It’s Michael.

6. What’s the hottest sex the two of you have ever had?

STEFAN: Oh ho! I can promise you my oh-so-proper älskling will refuse to answer this question, but I’ll just say this: it involved a tailored suit, a silk negligee, a brass bed and some rope. And Luna’s hair, coming down from that French twist of hers one hairpin at a time…hmm, yes…what was the question again?

7. Which of you is most likely to be jealous?

STEFAN: Ah, me I’m afraid.

8. What was her mother’s nickname for her when she was a child?

STEFAN: She…Luna told you this? It was chicken, but this is a very distressing subject for her. She lost both her parents when she was very young and…I think we should strike this question from the quiz.

9. When we asked Luna what she loved most about you, she said the following three things:
1.Stefan is a management consultant, but he doesn’t just tell people how to run their businesses. He inspires everyone around him, challenges them and makes them believe they can achieve anything they set their mind to.
2.He’s also the smartest, bravest, strongest man I know. I would follow him into a burning building…or into a sinking ship. I’d go anywhere as long as it was him telling me to.
3.Stefan knows me, really knows me, outside and in. He understands me better than anyone else on earth.
But which of these did she say was the most important to her?

STEFAN: My flicka said these things? This…this makes me very happy. You see now, why I love her so much. But she would say number 3 is the most important.

1. Do I Wanna Know

2. ‘Fuck off back to Sweden’

3. Fish and chips

4. Smile

5. Michael

6.Pardon?! I’m not answering that

9. Number 3

1. What’s Stefan’s all-time favourite band?

LUNA: That’s a hard one. What he’ll say is something like Nirvana, or the Kings of Leon, or Kasabian. But really, it’s Abba.

2. All of us here at Love Match remember Stefan from his time on the English TV show Triad, where he and two other business experts were brought in to save failing companies. But do you remember his most famous catchphrase from that programme?

LUNA: I was living abroad when the programme aired, so I’ve never seen it! My best friends all watched it obsessively, though, and I still remember them waxing lyrical about the ‘hot Swedish totty’ on the show. Was Stefan’s catchphrase something like, ‘Sometimes you have to shrink to grow’?

3.What will Stefan say is his favourite part of your body?

LUNA: My eyes.

4.What was his mother’s nickname for him growing up?

LUNA: Ha ha, oh no! It’s liten prince, and his friends never let him forget it.

5. Where is his favourite place to go on holiday?

LUNA: Stefan loves to travel, he’s been all over the world. But I think he’d say he was happiest in his family’s summer house on Gotland, an island off the coast of Sweden. That’s where he’s most relaxed.

6. Speaking of Sweden, a little bird has told us that Stefan and his boyhood mate Mika got into a fair few scrapes growing up, including one that involved the police. Do you know what happened?

LUNA: Ah, yes, Stefan has never fully confessed to this, but his father tells me it involved a life-sized nativity crèche, two teenage boys, and a great deal of alcohol.

7. If we ask Stefan to tell us what animal you most remind him of, what do you think he’ll say?

LUNA: I’ll let you in on a little secret: Stefan has a weakness for small, cute animals. Baby bunnies, kittens, bear cubs—they’re like Kryptonite to him. So maybe he’ll say I remind him of a newborn black Shetland lamb?

8. Stefan didn’t always want to be a management consultant. What career would he have pursued if he hadn’t started his consultancy firm?

LUNA: Yes! I know this one! He’d have been a farmer.

9. When Stefan gave us his top tips for making sure a relationship lasts, here’s what he said:
1.Make sure she knows that in your life, she comes first. And last. And everything in between.
2.Never, under any circumstances, disrespect her friends. Luna will cut you dead if you come between her and her best friends.
3.Remember Stefan Lundgren’s golden rule: ‘I consider it both a duty and a privilege.’ (yes, I’m talking about a sex act and yes, I think you’ve guessed which one)

LUNA: He didn’t! He didn’t say that last one, did he? Oh, he is too bad. The answer’s 1, though. Definitely.

1. Nirvana

2.‘That’s bullshit and you know it’

3.Her eyes

4.Liten Prince

6.Bearing gifts to Baby Jesus

8. Farmer

9. #1 Luna 

Combined score: 14 out of 18.

Well, we don’t know about you folks at home, but we at Love Match reckon Luna and Stefan have what it takes to keep the home fires burning for a long time to come!!!

Valentine’s Day Special: Relationship Tips from Dominick and Rain from Miss Take Identity Series by Cleo Scornavacca

For this one we have the hero and heroine of one of my favorite books, Miss Taken by Cleo Scornavacca! So let’s hear (or read LOL) what they have to say in terms of relationship advice!!

DOMINICK: I always say no matter how much you screw up gentlemen, bring your ladies roses….white is what I bring Rain.

RAIN: That’s true. He always brings me flowers, but not screwing up in the first place would be the better bet. Think before you do something. That can be hard in the heat of anger or the heat of the moment, but it’s better than having to clean up the mess you created. Okay….if all else fails bring her something that says you’re sorry and that you were thinking of her. Sure it could be flowers or chocolate …….or better yet, bring her yourself and just say that you were wrong and you messed up, but you still love her.

DOMINCK: With Valentine’s Day upon us, never buy your significant other any sort of appliance and even if she asked for one, err on the side of caution and buy anything but appliances. Not that I made that mistake, but trust me, appliances are not the way to a woman’s heart.

RAIN: Yeah… My husband is right, appliances are not for special occasions. I have a better idea just your typical wine and roses. Although that’s nice, why not plan a small getaway without the kids. Choose a place, any place you would both like to be and book it for the weekend of the holiday.

DOMINICK: Since we’re on the subject of the birthdays and holidays……do yourself a favor and never forget the special occasions.

RAIN: In all seriousness, keeping a marriage together is more than the gifts on holidays. It about making time for one another, no matter how busy life gets. Whether it’s watching a movie, a long walk on the beach. It really is about quality time.

DOMINICK: I dont know if I could top that, but I’m going to try….keeping a marriage happy and together, is all about listening. Okay I know what you’re going to say, I never listen….but the truth is that I hear more than Rain thinks.

RAIN: Also truly choosing your battles carefully. Something Dominick needs to remember. If it not worth fighting for, its not worth fighting about. This is just a total waste of time you could be together.

DOMINICK: This isn’t original but it is the truth….never good to bed or go away mad. Make sure not matter what, you will always kiss goodnight.

DOMINICK: If truly all else fails … swoop her up and take her to bed. ( an evil grin appears on Mr. Kane’s)

RAIN: ( silence and a pause) I’m good with that. ❤
